Paddy’s Day, Triple Crown, and Sleive Binnian

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:53 am

Despite planning to go north to Donegal for Paddy’s day, I stayed in and watched the schools cup rugby on the telly, bought an airfix kit of an italian torpedo bomber, and generally bummed about.

Ireland won the triple crown but missed out on the six nations championship. Right up to the last they flattered to decieve as they have for the last four seasons. In the very play of the game they scored a try to beat England and lift the first triple crown trophy, historically the triple crown was just bragging rights.

On Sunday, Chris and I went for a walk up the Mournes and climbed Slieve Binnian up the Mourne Wall from the Annanlong Valley, it is a quite steep ascent and I was glad of him encouraging me up. He is too fit mind you and probably could have run up it. The views from the top were really fantastic, there was still a bit of snow on the top too, the bast part is that there is a huge top to walk around when you get there. It was really busy as it was probably the first good weekend since the winter. I’m definitely going back up there again soon. It is properly addictive and really good for the old ticker.

Ancestor: Podcast Novel

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:33 am

Scott Sigler has been off my radar for a while I enjoyed his first podcast novel, EarthCore. It is out in print now but I don’t know if it would make such a great book. He has got a few other books in podcast form now. Ancestor and his latest, Infection. I think his work is probably better in serialised SciFi form. I think he’d make a great writer for the likes of Stargate. I’m looking forward to getting into Ancestor.

Reading: The Big Nowhere

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:04 pm

The first book in James Ellroy’s Dudley Smith trio. A sick and twisted tale of sick and twisted people. All set in L.A. in the early fifties, populated by bent cops, addicts, dealers, queers, and mobsters. Shocking. Loved every page.

Michelle is expecting! It is very early only 7 weeks but I am really stoked. It is a mix of excitement and trepidation. Excitement for how my life is going change so much in such a short period of time. From getting married in November and going to South Africa on honeymoon, to changing jobs and moving home, getting a new place to live, and now this news. The trepidation I feel is only from the feeling that something could be wrong with the pregancy, once we get the scan done in a few weeks I’ll feel a lot better.

The fact that I’m living at my parents and away from Michelle due to the new job is far from ideal. This situation is only temporary and in a month or two we will set in a new house with baby on the way. Till then fingers crossed.
