Photos of Kirsti’s Christening

Four generations of Fosters and Stewarts were there, all entertained by Joanne’s mum. We got a fantastic day and Kristi is loving the camera.

End of May

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:56 pm

I’ve not been posting heavily in May. So this is a brief update of what has happened this month

Work

Finally got Scapa streaming a full multiplex of digital terrestrial. Unfortunately some more optimisations will be required to get two multiplexes working but the basic outline of the product is working.

We are also moving offices at the end of the week. It is not far from where we are now and it is a much better space. Looking forward to that

Personal

Kirsti was christened last week, I was there to see her. She has a very vivacious personality, and looks crazily intelligent. David and Joanne will have their work cut out there :)

Someone knocked my motorbike over causing a fair bit of damage. I just want rid of it now :(

Computing

I’ve installed breezy at home and at work. I also have WindowsXP at home simply because Michelle’s internet banking requires IE. I’ll look into this and maybe have a go with agent chooser for firefox.

Derby Lose

We had a mountain to climb, but it was no fairy tale ending. At the end of the day, it just wasn’t our night. :)

Derby County (0) Preston NE (2)

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:05 pm

As a life long Derby County fan I’m approaching tonight’s game with the typical fear and trepidation that precedes any semi-final. To lose a semi is particularly cruel because you are denied the “big day out” that a final apperance permits. This semi is the biggest game Derby have had in a very long time. The fact that we are 2-0 down going into this final leg and missing our leading goalscorer, our midfield general and two defensive stalwarts doesn’t really help my mood. There really is no hope and we are not ready for the premiership despite the greeat work done by George Burley. That doesn’t mean I don’t want County to be playing Chelsea next season. No, what I don’t want next season is mid-table osbcurity in the Championship. So no matter what the outcome, I’ll still be singing “We are Derby, Super Derby, Super Derby, Super RAMS”

oops

Not quite sure what happened by I downloaded the gnome-menu-editor from hoary backports and my font server got killed. Looks like there is a symbol link missing from /usr/lib/Xorg to the font directories. Thankfully it is fixed now and I have windowing running again.

Gnome Blosxom

Just downloaded this little python script which makes blogging easier. As I’ve been so slack recently this is the ideal cure.

Loving lincvs

For the last few days I’ve been using CVS check-ins. It looks a lot like WinCVS and make the management of a large project like scapa much easier. So far my favourite feature is the nice graphical merge and annotate tool so one can see what changes have been made by whom.

Tuner support

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:49 am

Added DVB-T and DVB-S tuner support today. The DVB-T stuff works. Gill used dvbscan to get a lock on a signal and we will look to push video data tomorrow. Good progress.

Breezy Ubuntu

Upgraded my work PC to breezy this morning. I don’t think it will offer much in the way of new stuff now that sarge is frozen. Hopefully tomboy and beagle will go into it though.

Little bit political

Who Should You Vote For?

Who should I vote for in Scotland?

Your expected outcome:

Labour

Your actual outcome:

Labour -31
Conservative -18
Liberal Democrat 29
UKIP -17
Green 27
Scottish National Party 47
Scottish Socialist Party 59

You should vote: Scottish Socialist Party

The SSP is an anti-capitalist party that seeks to create an independent Scottish state. Unsurprisingly it would introduce higher marginal tax rates than the LibDems and have a strong focus on the welfare state. It supports reduction of CO2 emissions, and is anti both the European Constitution and the Euro.
