Jason Byrne @ the stand edinburgh

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:52 pm

Went to see Jason Byrne last night. He is a nuts Dubliner comic, and has a namesake who is a magician. I hoped to God it is not the magician I’d paid to go and see. It wasn’t and I didn’t pay.
He was in cracking form, he didn’t appear to have a terrible lot of material and his set piece stuff was pretty lame, but he was best when playing off the audience. His observations and labelling or characterisation of people was spot on. The audience was quite subdued but he still had the place splitting their sides by the end. Good work fella!

Hosting broke my website

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:33 pm

Uploaded all my stories to supanames. But their server doesn’t support MDTM. So all the files are dated today. Which kinda wrecks blosxom. :(

They don’t let scripts have write permissions so I don’t think I can use index tagging to fix the date problem. I hope I can fix this but as of today none of my posts are in order. :(

Apart from this one :)

thttpd

Lappy is now running thttpd. It is a tiny, easy to setup, webserver.
We use it on our boards for remote management. It works perfectly well to sreve up this kind of site. As my focus is embedded
I could care less about how to configure apache so this is adequate for my needs.

Ubuntu on lappy

Just installed the Warty Warthog release on lappy. The install was very smooth and detected the cdrom which is usually the problem with linux installs. It looks good and seems easy to use. The only problem at this point is the graphics support is very slow. Not a problem for me as lappy is not used for gaming but I see that putting some people off.

Hoary Hedgehog

Flushed with success at the installation of Warty Warthog from ubuntu, I’ve installed Hoary Hedgehog on lappy. As nothing that important runs on lappy I’m happy to expose it to development packages. As of today lappy is now running X.org. I wonder how hard it is to add a package for thttpd?

I’ve decided to pay for web hosting and at £13 a year, supanames throw in domain registration. They say they allow script excution. I hope they do as I don’t want to have to publish statically. Watch that space.

Firefox 1.0

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:34 pm

A few days ago the first gold version of the Firefox web browser was released. It is a real improvement over anyone using IE. I’ve been using it since it was called phoenix, then firebird, and finally firefox. It has always had a slickness and feel to the user interface and it that is still present. It is the best designed software, never mind browser, that I’ve had the pleasure of using. Oh did I mention it is free?

Valid html

Put validator icons at the bottom of the page and a link to the no software patents petition. The page should now validate correctly for the HTML 4.01 Transitional document type.

New look.

Made a nice theme using CSS. The picture in top bar is the view out my bedroom window in the morning.
It was a beautiful morning this morning.
